I have been painting mandalas since 2015, a journey that transformed my life into a profound spiritual awakening. I first encountered mandalas through traditional line drawings, but my passion ignited when I saw a dotted mandala on a vinyl record. Mesmerized by its intricate beauty, I was surprised to learn it was a mandala, as it featured no lines or squiggles—just mesmerizing dots. This discovery sparked something deep within me, setting me on a quest to master this unique mandala art form
Discovering the Art of Mandala Painting
My fascination led me to experiment with unconventional tools like toothpicks, pencil eraser ends, and even coins glued to sticks to create larger dots. I scoured the Internet to get any kind of information on how these were created. I was obsessed and couldn’t stop. It was truly my happy place, and within a few months, I sold my first piece to a friend—an unexpected milestone that marked the organic growth of my mandala art business.
Overcoming Childhood Doubts Through Mandala Art
Creating these magical mandala art pieces wasn’t just a hobby; it evolved into a spiritual practice that reshaped my life. Initially, I had no idea this journey would lead to such profound personal growth. My childhood dream of becoming an artist had been crushed at age 10 when my mother warned I’d be a “starving artist.” Those words buried my aspirations until, at 49, my mandala art journey rekindled that long-forgotten dream.
A Spiritual Turning Point Amid Challenges
Four years into my journey, life threw challenges my way. In a two-week span, a hillside fire nearly destroyed our home, saved only by my husband’s quick action. Days later, a dear friend was tragically killed by a drunk driver. Soon after, I learned my brother had stage 4 lung cancer, and my son’s girlfriend gave birth to my grandson, a micro-preemie, at just five months. These events shook my world, leading to drastic weight loss—down to 90 pounds—and a fragile mental state. Despite doctors’ suggestions for antidepressants, I resisted, feeling something else was at play.
Meditation: The Key to Grounding
A pivotal moment came when I turned to meditation. That first session grounded me, making me feel sane and centered. I took a year off from painting to focus on healing, not realizing that meditation would become a vital piece of my spiritual awakening. By January 2020, I fully embraced this new chapter, connecting meditation with my mandala art practice.
The universe guides us to where we need to be. My mandala art journey taught me resilience, creativity, and mindfulness.
